A Prayer for Anxiety When Your Mind Won’t Stop Racing

Your body is tired.

But your mind won't stop.

What if something goes wrong?

What if I can't handle this?

What am I going to do about tomorrow?

Did I make the wrong decision?

How am I going to fix everything?

One thought turns into another.

Then another.

Before long, you're carrying conversations that haven't happened, problems that haven't arrived, and outcomes you cannot control.

If that's where you are right now, you don't need to have everything figured out before coming to God.

You can come exactly as you are.

Overwhelmed. Worried. Tired. Unsure.

Take a moment.

You don't have to solve tomorrow right now.

Let's pray.

First, Give Yourself Permission to Stop

Anxiety can make everything feel urgent.

Your mind tells you:

Figure it out.

Fix it.

Prepare for everything that could go wrong.

But you don't have to answer every question tonight.

You don't have to solve every problem this morning.

You don't have to know how everything will work out before you can experience a moment of peace.

Jesus said:

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.”

— Matthew 6:34

That doesn't mean your problems aren't real.

It doesn't mean you shouldn't plan or take responsible action.

It means you weren't created to carry today's burdens and tomorrow's imagined burdens at the same time.

Come back to today.

Come back to this moment.

Come back to God.

A Prayer for Anxiety and a Racing Mind

Father,

my mind feels tired.

There are so many thoughts running through my head right now.

I'm thinking about what happened yesterday.

I'm worried about what could happen tomorrow.

I'm replaying conversations.

I'm imagining outcomes.

I'm trying to solve problems that I don't know how to solve.

And I'm exhausted.

So right now, God, I give You what I've been carrying.

I give You the situation I cannot control.

I give You the answer I'm still waiting for.

I give You the conversation I'm afraid to have.

I give You the financial pressure.

I give You the uncertainty.

I give You the people I love and cannot protect from everything.

I give You tomorrow.

And I give You the thoughts that keep telling me everything depends on me.

Father, quiet my heart.

Your Word says:

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”

— 1 Peter 5:7

So that is what I'm doing now.

I'm placing these worries into Your hands.

Not because I suddenly understand everything.

Not because all my problems disappeared.

But because I don't want fear to carry me somewhere You never asked me to go.

Help me remember that You are here with me now.

When my mind races toward the worst possible outcome, bring me back to what is true.

When fear tells me I won't make it through this, remind me of the times You've already carried me.

When I feel like everything depends on me, remind me that I can do my part and trust You with what I cannot control.

Give me wisdom for the things I can change.

Give me courage for the things I need to face.

Give me patience for the things that require time.

And give me peace about the things that are completely outside my control.

Your Word says:

“Be still, and know that I am God.”

— Psalm 46:10

So for this moment, Father, help me be still.

Quiet the noise.

Slow my thoughts.

Help me breathe.

Help me remember:

I am here.

You are here.

And I do not have to solve everything right now.

Give me enough strength for today.

Enough wisdom for the next decision.

Enough courage for the next conversation.

Enough faith for the next step.

And when my mind begins racing again, gently remind me to bring my thoughts back to You.

I don't know everything that tomorrow holds.

But I know I don't have to walk into tomorrow alone.

I place what I cannot control into Your hands.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.
